I'm usually trying to learn about how and why things work.

English & Social Studies Instructor

As a a part-time English Instructor at Dona Ana Community College, I also have time to take on additional tutoring as well and would welcome the opportunity for one-on-one instruction. I have a M.A. in English (American Studies), with a B.A. in Sociology (Minors: Education and Psychology). I also have New York State Permanent High School Teaching Certification and know sufficient French and Spanish to do translation work into English from both languages. For many years I have taught at all levels. I began teaching 8th grade, then 4th grade, in Massachusetts. Since I am a Catholic Sister belonging to an international community, I then taught college level in India for four and a half years. Later I taught at all levels in West Africa--adult literacy, women's village development courses, high school, and adults at a Workers' College. Returning to the United States, I taught adult literacy in Georgia, GED and Adult Basic Education in New York, and high school in New York.

I like modest mouse, interpol, and this group i just found called sigur ros. i like good movies like vanilla sky, bottle rocket, lost in translation. latest movie i saw was the weather man which was decent. lately ive been hanging out in either olympia or capitol hill up in seattle. i used to be somewhat into sports. Ive been in WA for almost 3 yrs now and i really like it up here. So much that i will be staying up here after the army is done with me.

A pet peeve of mine is when everything wonderful about a story is explained away as a dream. I want to live in a world where, layer by layer, underworlds reveal themselves just alongside ours. I like to roam in search of things, but I'm not exactly sure what. I like to read, I like to go out, I like to stay in, I like to run, I like to learn new things. I like narrowly escaping death on my bike commute. I like nature, but I don't see it nearly often enough. I heard this story on NPR about trees after Katrina, and in times of catastrophe, nature will speed up the spring and plants will blossom much earlier. I love this. I'm very social, but the aesthetic closest to my heart is "After Hours" -- I like to call it the happiest song about loneliness. A similar aesthetic is in Charlie Chaplin's The Gold Rush, while he's outside alone, listening to all of the happy revelers who are inside singing Auld Lang Syne. Or Lost In Translation, when Bill Murray sings "More Than This." I love Roxy Music. I love songs that

So, my name is Justin. I went to Mitchell Highschool until this past November (2005) and transferred to Gulf Highschool (2006). I graduated from there this past May (2006). By the way, I love random IM's. My name on AIM is 'sexuellergott'. Don't let the translation fool you, i'm not a sexual deviant. I just found it amusing at the time, and I still do.

I'm a 22 year old recent New York resident, looking for people with similar interests to hang out with and talk. I love movies, especially art movies such as In the Mood for Love, Yiyi, The New World, Lost in Translation, Days of Heaven and far too many other ones. I also like video games, although I probably should play less. A history minor makes me a huge fan of non-fiction, and I'm trying to break into more philosophy. Music is another big part of me. My current favourites are This is the Kit, Fionn Regan, Vampire Weekend, Ida and Anni Rossi.

A bit introverted, a bit extroverted, I'm the best of both worlds (or possibly the worst). Some situations can be pretty awkward for me, but I quickly warm up to people and usually find something in common. If I'm a bit shy, trip on my words, or say "bye" and then realise we both aren't going anywhere it probably means I'm interested in you and my brain is going, "zsrg, khajkhfduerbzjdzv" (rough translation) trying to catch up.

I'm blasé about many things. Memories of the many lives lived are leaching out at an exponential rate. Few have survived my Takeshi's Castle of a mindfuck. Try me. p.s. It's so much fun to translate English into Tagalog, just because the languages have translation equivalency issues. If you understand Tagalog, I encourage you to laugh with me. I just realized that my profile is one long-winded self-fellating rant. Read on, if you must. I was born in Manila, and have lived in the US and the island of Guam over the last 10 years. My features are atypical of my ethnicity but I assure you that I am Filipino. My childhood: all-girls Catholic school education and an Evangelical Protestant upbringing, growing up in the 80's with the vestiges of 70's pop culture, parenting from subordinates (nannies as proxy for my absent--albeit workaholic--parents), Reader's Digest and Choose-Your-Own-Adventure, libraries and Manila tabloids, arguably the most Eurocentric society in Southeast
